Where Do Residents Live?

“Where do the residents live?”  is a frequently asked question.  “All over!” is truly the answer.  However, most residents choose to live in an area that is roughly equidistant from all three hospital sites.  This is the case for several city neighborhoods:  Longfellow in Minneapolis (along the west bank of the Mississippi River), Northeast Minneapolis, Prospect Park (near the U of MN), Midway area of St. Paul (near the State Fair or Lake Como), or the Mac/Groveland and Highland Park areas of St. Paul (along the east bank of the Mississippi).  The commute to any of the hospitals, from any of these neighborhoods, averages 15-20 minutes.

Several suburbs are also close enough to work and city life:  on the west side, Golden Valley, Hopkins, Edina; to the North and East, Roseville, Shoreview, or Maplewood; and to the south, Burnsville, Eagan, Apple Valley.  Commutes here average 25 minutes to 45 minutes.

About half of our residents choose to rent, the other half buy.  Townhomes, lofts and condos are very popular, especially with the minimal upkeep needed.   The housing market is more reasonable than most other major cities and many residents have purchased single family homes as well.
